The new pavilion at Old Trafford has been nominated for a major award

Following an impressive £7.5 million redevelopment, the historic Old Trafford pavilion at Lancashire County Cricket Club has been nominated for the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce Building of the Year Award.

The pavilion is up against three other buildings - The Air Traffic Control Tower at Manchester Airport, the new Coronation Street set and Number One Riverside, in Rochdale - and the winner will be unveiled on 31st October.

The awards will be judged by the Greater Manchester Chamber's property and construction committee, which will be conducting a number of site visits in the coming months.

"This competition celebrates the innovative buildings that are constructed in our region each year, and showcases the successful collaborations that take place between talented project teams in our industry and their clients," Mike Gibson, Chair of the Commitee, said.

"This year we invited nominations from everyone in our sector and, in spite of the difficult economic conditions the industry has faced, we received many worthy entries for new buildings from across Greater Manchester.”

Angela Hodson, venue sales manager at Emirates Old Trafford added: "To be chosen as one of four finalists within weeks of the building being handed back to the club is incredible.

"The re-development of the Pavilion was carried out by construction company Morgan Sindall and designed by architects BDP who did an incredible job to restore it to its rightful place as the physical and symbolic centre-piece of the club.

"The re-developed Pavilion now gives us the opportunity to cater for smaller meetings and events. It also allows for large scale events taking place in The Point to utilise the venue for workshops/syndicate spaces."
