Darren Lehmann (right) has been fined for his comments about Stuart BroadThe International Cricket Council (ICC) has fined Darren Lehmann for comments he made inviting Australian fans to target Stuart Broad this winter.
He will lose 20 per cent of his match fee after pleading guilty to a breach of the ICC Code of Conduct.
Prior to the opening day of the fifth Ashes Test at The Oval, in an interview with Australian radio station Triple M, he criticised Broad for not walking during the opening Test at Trent Bridge.
He called that blatant cheating, then added that he hoped that Australian fans would target Broad this winter.
However, his comments have seen him fall foul of a charge of publicly criticising and making inappropriate comments, and the Australian coach pleaded guilty when charged by ICC Chief Executive David Richardson.
"Whilst noting the context and nature of the comments made, showing mutual respect for one’s fellow professionals - including for coaches, players and match officials - is a cornerstone of how we play the game," Richardson said.
