Super Sleepers: Can One of These Underdogs Defy the Odds?

Cheering fan

Remember the Jets and Miracle Mets of '69? The 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team? The Buster Douglas-Mike Tyson stunner?

Every sports fan loves a great upset, especially when it's his team doing the upsetting.

The Super Bowl has had a few surprises, other than the Joe Namath-led Jets beating the Baltimore Colts in 1969.

There was the Giants win over the 12-point favorites, the Patriots, in Super Bowl XLII, ruining New England's perfect season. And there was the Chiefs over the Vikings, who were also 12-point favorites, in Super Bowl IV. Just to name two examples.

Actually, it's getting to be sort of a trend in the Super game. When the Ravens whipped San Francisco last year, it was the third straight year the game was won by a team seeded third or lower in its conference.

The same could easily happen again this year. So I put together this list of the teams, none of whom are the favorites of the odds-makers, who could again sneak up and do the unexpected.

Do you have a sleeper?

IMO Bloodstone is the best Bond game on the PC platform, I really liked it.

Videocard: SAPPHIRE HD 7770 1GB OC Processor: Phenom II X4 B50 Quad 3.2 Soundcard: SB X-Fi Xtreme Music Default 08-25-2013, 15:19 | posts: 3,574 Word has leaked through the communications array that Streum On Studio - the team responsible for the pretty-rough-yet-kinda-great E.Y.E Divine Cybermancy - is working on a Warhammer 40,000 game based on the Space Hulk board game.

Space Hulk: Deathwing has been revealed through leaked paper documents uploaded to NeoGAF. The game is to be a first person shooter set in the cramped confines of the Space Hulks, with players strapping on the Terminator armour of one of the Emperor's best Space Marine chapters: the Dark Angels.

The description in the scans explain that players will take on the role of a Librarian. If you're not familiar with the 40K universe, Librarians are indeed the keepers of books, but books that contain the secrets to mental powers. As a Psyker you'll be able to blast enemies with mind bullets and tear their brain apart. An RPG-elements system will allow players to spend points in four different skills trees.

As a Space Hulk game, the Marines will of course be facing the Tyranid Genestealers.

Provided this is all true, I'm surprised that another Space Hulk game is on its way so soon after the one that has only just hit Steam. It also doesn't seem to fit the FPS mould well; are not cramped corridor shooters a thing of the 90's? And with the massive war zones of the 40K universe, would a large-scope shooter on the Unreal engine with that superb art style not be something divine? Still, Deathwing could well be the game Aliens: Colonial Marines should have been; a claustrophobic, tense experience with scuttling little bastards jumping out when you least expect them to.

Provided the scans are legit, Space Hulk: Deathwing will be published by Focus next year. We'll keep you posted on any further developments.

I have been waiting for a good teammate. It is challenging too with no check points in all.

None of my friends have the game or are planning to get it, and my brother wont be convinced because he hated conviction.

Steam name is Hanzy.

Processor: Intel i7 3930K SB-E Mainboard: ASUS Sabertooth X79 Memory: Samsung PC1600 16 gigs Default Today, 16:49 | posts: 166 | Location: Silver Spring, MD USA Gaming is no longer taken seriously by the industry other than how to make as much money as possible; hence, the current state of affairs. Elaborate games with complex controls overwhelm today's generation of gamers. Serious games like simulations are too expensive to produce. That's why you see only a handful of genres being developed anymore and what games are produced are basically all the same. They have to be since they are now all developed for cookie-cutter consoles.

I'm so grateful I lived to see what gaming can actually be. But sadly those days are gone forever.

But the general trend is towards "instant gratification" type games where you start up the game and basically shoot anything that moves. Back in the day, games that had 20+ keys usually came with a keyboard overlay. You could also install voice command software and map the commands to your voice.

And let's not forget the HOTAS controls where you can map keys to the joystick and throttle. At this level, gaming is more of a serious undertaking which most people today either do not know about or aren't interested in taking that far. It was all about immersion...not just awesome graphics (which is today's answer to realism).
