NFL Week Two: Brother Vs. Brother

Monday 16 September 2013

Peyton and Eli Manning

Everybody I know who plays sports and has a brother would rather lose to anyone other than that brother. Other than, maybe, his sister.

That's why I find it hard to believe the Manning family - father Archie and brothers Peyon and Eli - doesn't go through envy, jealousy and worse.

They swear they don't.

Peyton and Eli horse around together, like most brothers, but insist there is no heated rivalry, though both are starting quarterbacks in the NFL.

Eli was the first overall draft pick out of Ole Miss, holds a mess of both franchise and league records, and was the MVP of two Super Bowls.

Peyton is 37 and nearly five years older than Eli. The older Manning has more individual accomplishments, and is considered one of the best quarterbacks of his generation, but can't match his younger brother's Super Bowl record.

But, Eli is 0-2 against Peyton in the two games they've faced off in the NFL. The two will meet Sunday - Peyton leading the Broncos and Eli leading the Giants - and it will probably be the last time they ever meet professionally.

All of the Manning family members say they hate these matchups. Cooper, the oldest brother, went to the first game between his two younger brothers and swore he would never watch another, mainly because he figured out that when he rooted for one brother, he was rooting against the other.

Most of the rest of us will be watching Sunday. The Denver-New York matchup is just one of a slew of juicy NFL games tonight and this weekend. Here is my rundown of the top, can't-miss games.
